4-2-16: Session 1
It was a tough beginning with the stop at the inn, and I feel like we may have been somewhat unprepared for the realities of adventuring. The horrific wood creature showed us that we need to be more careful and that people can die quickly if they are unlucky. After returning the items to the artist and resolving the issues with the sheriff, we set out again for Trunau.
It has been a long journey across the forest with my sister, brothers, and Spicey. It has been nice getting to know my brothers and sister a little better. I didn’t really know my two brothers before I left for Janderhoff, but I did grow up with Mandy. She seems much the same as I remember, adventurous and spirited. After these travels, I wonder if Sol has some issue with my return, he has said very little since we left Last Wall, and while Felix has a lot to say, his devotion to law and order will no doubt be a source of contention between us, I just don’t see the world through the same eyes that he does.
As we approach the hold of Trunau, I can easily see why this city has stood for so long. There are giant walls and sturdy defenses. Upon entering, Spicey procured us some rooms and we went our separate ways. After settling in, we joined in on the festivities for their Hope-knife ceremony, and had the chance to meet a lot of interesting people. I think one of the more interesting people we met was High Priestess Tayari. I told her of my visions of her and Felix getting married. Truth be told, I may not have actually had these visions, but it seemed like a good chance to create an awkward situation for him, and in the end, I feel like it was my duty as a big brother. I will continue to work on that and see what happens.
The next morning, we had awoken to the sounds of the chaos in the streets. Patrol Captain Rodric Grath had been murdered the night before. His brother asked us to investigate and we were happy to help out. After talking with some townsfolk and people of importance, our investigation led us to an old church outside of town. Throughout the search of this place we encounter an orc and some sort of beast that stood on two legs. My brothers and I fought bravely, but in the end I was not skilled enough to avoid death. The beast tore me in half with its giant claws and I was on my way to the afterlife when I felt myself pulled back to my body through holy magic. When I awoke, I found the orc and beast dead, my brothers standing, and my sister laying on the ground still. After some healing from Sol, we continued our search of the old church and rand across some oversized rats and a giant spider.
Throughout my time in prison, Fibin told me time and time again that I would need to use magic to protect myself. I guess it took my own death to heed his advice. I will begin to focus on working with the magical skills that he taught me.
